A story idea that occurred to me a while ago: The main character was sent to Earth from another planet as a baby. She develops superpowers on Earth, not because of Earth’s sun but because the people of her home planet become physically tougher in response to injuries that don’t kill them, with a corresponding increase in strength and speed, and possibly other areas. By the time she was sent away this had actually lead to a society where everyone is essentially coddled (think the Axiom in Wall-E), for fear of what someone who became too strong would be capable of. I initially thought her parents would automatically have sent her to Earth because their world would soon be destroyed, but another interesting possibility that occurred to me is that they did it to prove a point: that the society they live in is holding everyone back.
